Museum Day in Armenia is an annual event that is celebrated on May 18th. The day is also celebrated in conjunction with International Museum Day which annually occurs on or around the 18th of May and is organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The ICOM sets a theme each year in which international museums promote.
The theme for the 2023 International Museum Day (IMD) is “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing”.
For Armenia, the day is dedicated to celebrating its plentiful history, rich culture and heritage of the country, with a special focus on museums both large and small.
On this special day, museums across Armenia open their doors to visitors free of charge. Some may require a reduced admission fee and a possibility of fees for photography or video inside the museums. Some businesses that have museums inside may charge full price. Special events, exhibitions, guided tours, and self-guided tours are often organized to mark the occasion, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the country’s museums and learn about its history and culture.
If you’re organizing your own self-guided tour, be sure to contact the museum staff for downloadable apps or devices to help translate into your language if possible.
